“Elvoran, you will remain in the tower and continue your study of the ancient texts. There are surely still clues buried in the old language — truths we’ve yet to see. Your knowledge will be essential in uncovering how we might oppose Xaroth, should he truly attempt to cross into our world.”
Elvoran gave a solemn nod. “I will devote myself to the search,” he said. He closed the book and rose.
Master Drobal turned to Raynarus. “You must keep watch on the orc shaman. You’ll travel to Fallgar and see whether the rumors bear truth. But stay hidden. We cannot afford mistakes now.”
“I will depart at once,” Raynarus said.
“I myself will go to Astinhod,” Master Drobal continued. “To find Gorathdin. He once saved Wetherid from ruin. If anyone can recover the Crystal of Seeing, it is Gorathdin and his fellowship. Their strength and experience will be vital to what lies ahead.”
Raynarus nodded, but Elvoran barely heard. His gaze had fallen back to the book in his hands — and from there, to the endless shelves around him. There had to be more hidden in the ancient words than they had yet uncovered.
The Deed
“Laaron, I can’t go on like this,” Leandra whispered when they met in secret one evening in the palace garden.
Laaron looked at her — truly looked — but she turned away.
“I love you. But I cannot betray Queen Lythinda.”
